July 29, 2007

This is the first week this summer I've had time to relax without an itinerary or "to do" list to follow. It got a little boring actually. So, naively, I took on some new tasks. The first one, which I really look forward to, is throwing my cousin a murder mystery party for his 16th birthday. I think it will be a lot of fun if everyone will sacrifice making fools out of themselves in a mixed gender crowd.

The second task took on a mind of its own. I'm currently a member of the CMR alumni site. While browsing it the other day, I noticed there was a section in which one could volunteer to enter in the names of alumni who hadn't registered on the site yet. That's right, I volunteered myself to do it. We have approx. 45 alumni from my class registered, which means I have somewhere between 300 and 400 names to add. I started alphabetically and am at the C's. Also, looking for missing alumni has led to a another unintentioned task, working on my 20th high school reunion which will be next summer. Let me state here so no one misunderstands: I AM NOT IN CHARGE!

Some of the other happenings of the week: a call from an old friend of mine who just moved here, Hunter being asked to leave his temp job (goofing off...how embarrassing), and a fun day at the waterpark with Cooper. Kurt and I went and saw Transformers. I really liked the movie, but have to wonder why they include unnecessary risque scenes. I better get ready for church and get some dinner on. Enjoy your week, I plan to!

July 22, 2007 Entry #1

My sister hooked me up with this website, so I decided to give blogging a try. I think keeping a journal is important, but I'm not very good at it, so I decided online journaling may be more successful in my case. My goal is to post an update on Sundays, no promises though.

The past few weeks we have been traveling. We had a fabulous time in California with Misti (my blogging sis) and her family. It was non-stop, traffic fearing fun. We flew home to Meridian, only to hit the road less than 24 hours later to visit my hometown of Great Falls, MT. I love going back to MT. I miss my family, friends, and the slower pace of life ( although my parents haven't quite figured out how to slow down yet). Kurt & I were able to squeeze in quite a few pinochle games with my grandparents, which is one of the highlights of our trip. Just for information sake, grandpa and I won almost every game.

We went and saw the newest Harry Potter movie...I'm a big fan. In fact, I've already read the final book. I loved it, but still have questions. We also saw Ratatouille. I'm not a big cartoon fan so a review wouldn't be appropriate. I was able to meet my newest niece, Kalea (sp?). She is darling, just like her siblings. Khanyi, my sister-in-law, looked amazing.

My ride home was brutal. I emailed my dad about it and I don't want to retype the whole thing, so I'll copy & paste the events here: we're back in Meridian after an exhausting 13 hour trip home. Cooper & I took the van back while Hunter & Kurt left an hour or so later in the white car. As I hit the Idaho/Montana border and my van hit 160,000 on the odometer, all you-know-what broke loose. I saw something from the van fly past my window and the van started hopping and jerking. Cooper was scared out of his mind. I pulled over and got out. The back tired wasn't popped, but the entire outside tread was laying in the road about a quarter of a mile back. The side of the van was beaten and part of the back bumper was torn off andwas sticking straight out.I got out of the van, unloaded all the luggage and put it in the van. Then, I got out my manual and started reading. I put the van parking brake on and told Coop to stay in the van (windows down of course since it was scorching hot). I got some of the tools out and was trying to figure out how to get to the spare tire when a trucker pulled up behind me. He changed the tire while I imitated Vanna White by doing things like putting away the broken tire and rolling the spare over and making small talk. This man was so nice.He then used one of his own bungee cords to tie down the crazy van piece. I got his name & address (he resides in Billings) and will be mailing him a thank you & a gift card. I shook his hand (he was missing a finger & we both had gross, grimy hands) and got in the van to continue on my way going 40mph. Pretty soon I noticed he was behind me and he following me all the way to DuBois...where I was planning on taking care of the tire situation. Well...no tire places there. Eventually Kurt & Hunter caught up right outside of Idaho Falls and we spent a couple of hours in the Walmart there getting 3 new tires.

Another little tidbit of news: Hunter has a short-term job that he isn't enjoying very much. His cousin Ryan is working with him which makes it a little less painful. If you have stayed with the post this long...I'm impressed. I better sign off for now, but if all my Sunday blogs end up this long, I'll look into do a midweek post as well.
